WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

I finally started a blog! I couldn't spend another day keeping my favorite recipes and tips all to myself and my inner circle of friends and family. I'm happy to start sharing...

I am a Registered Dietitian and Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist experienced in hospital patient care/clinical nutrition, nutrition counseling, public speaking, food retail and labeling, and community nutrition education. I jump at the opportunity to share my knowledge and expertise in effort to help others understand proper nutrition, practice healthy eating behaviors, establish positive relationships with food, and attain optimal health for a better quality of life. I'm on a mission to repair food's reputation - as something that is both nourishing and enjoyable!

Spending much of my time in the supermarket, I find out about new products before they hit the shelves. Looking down the isle of a supermarket can be overwhelming, but I've come to see it as a collection of scattered puzzle pieces- it just takes a little bit of trial and error to find the right fit when it comes to planning meals for a healthy diet. I always tell my clients not to stress- you get at least three meals a day to get it right! It always comes down to the big picture. One specific food will never make or break you- it all depends on your total intake.

I hope you find something useful in my blog as my main goal has always been to help people.

How did I get to be an RD? Well, it started in high school after dissecting a frog and the sight of the leg muscle reminded me of the piece of chicken I ate the night before. Though I was never a picky eater growing up- all of a sudden, I became one. Living in an Irish/Italian American family home, speaking the word "vegetarian" sounded as clear as speaking a sentence in Chinese to my parents. Beyond a veggie burger and a protein shake, my mom wasn't quite sure what to do with me. Being a student athlete and ballerina (that's about an 11 hour day between classes, track practice, dance rehearsal, and homework), I couldn't risk skimping on proper nutrition- so we headed to a local Dietitian. She made it easy, and after getting to know me, taught me how to plan meals and foods that were right for ME. Since then, I've been fascinated by food and nutrition- how it fuels your body and brain, how it protects you from disease, and how it is at the center of all we do in so many cultures around the world. I've been hooked ever since!
